Default Question re ebay selling...

Hello all -

A question regarding selling a bike via ebay.

What is the percentage that ebay takes upon a completed sale?

That is, for a $20,000 buy price, how much of it do they keep?

Thanks....

eBay motors is different than regular eBay. You do not pay that percentage, read the eBay motors faqs

Not sure exactly, but it's way too much....most sellers use eBay to advertise their wares, and buyers often hook up with the sellers AFTER the auction is over to complete the transaction. eBay hates this and will cut off a regular seller if caught.

Another thing that goes on is sellers charging "internet transaction" fees of a few hundred $$ at the time of the sale, over and above the sale price, doc fees, etc, etc. Still, it's a great way to buy and sell bikes, I've sold at least one bike and bought 2 from eBay over the past 7 years...

Fixed price of $125 for a low volume seller (less than 7 vehicles sold in a yr)
Insertion fee is free.

Disagree. Have a bike on eBay right now and it was listed locally all summer with no bites. Will sell tomorrow for more than i had listed it for locally so that $125 is money well spent as in this case i end up ahead and avoid the BS involved with the haggle. Even if the buyer flakes, the one behind him/her is still a better price so i can let them have it if still interested.

My only regret is not doing this in June as its a horrible time to sell a bike in the northeast as the season will be winding down shortly.

I have sold many things on E-Bay...I have had great luck...yes they charge for the service they provide but it is money very well spent....I don't get endless text messages from some JERK OFF wanting my bike for half of my asking price!!!!

Ebay is the best advertising site ever!
I know of no other site that gets the traffic they do.
$125 is cheap for what you're getting.
The problem with the free insertion thing is that there are so many
people out there fishing for high prices with crazy reserves, it makes 1/2
of the ads seem like BS.

I've been a regular eBay seller for around 16 years. The fees have gone up substantially over the years. As for eBay Motors, I sold one car there a few years ago. It worked out well, and the fee was $125 as I recall.

When it comes to lowball offers, I just have fun with it. This exchange a few weeks ago...

Item is listed for $150.
"Will you take $100?"
"No...but I can do $160."
"That is too high. How about $110?"
"Sorry. How about $175?"
"Hey, how come you keep raising the price?"

Everybody wants something for nothing.
