Default Hydraulic cam tensioners - any failures?

Hello all -

I think most folks here are well-aware of the cam chain tensioner problem wtih the TC88 engine and its small spring tensioners. I had that problem myself when I had a 2000 Road Glide - twice.

But....

I've now got a 2007 Road Glide with the TC96 engine, which has the improved cam plate design with the hydraulic tensioners.

I was wondering if there have been reports of failures with the NEW, redesigned tensioners?
Any personal experiences?

I've had no problems at all so far.
I'm at 63,000 miles.

To me, it seems like there are still failures but not as much as before like on the tc88.

Everything fails. There's no such thing as a mechanical device that's fail-proof.

However, I'm not aware of any inherent problems.

The tensioners are not the big problem, it is the chains, and all these guys that got the SE "upgrade" are still going to have failures on the inner tensioner, because on the tc88 they still use a stamped chain, and they eat tensioners.

Still wondering -- has anyone with a TC96 motor (that came from the factory with hydraulic tensioners) had a tensioner failure?

If not yourself, is there anyone who personally knows someone who has had such a failure?

I'd be more worried with everything else failing due to bad crank runout.

Best thing to do if your worried is to pull cam cover and take a look.Use a dental mirror or something like it to inspect rear tensioner shoe.Easy job.
