Default Used sportster with no odometer? need help

Hey guys,

Well I'm planning on buying my first HD this weekend. Since i haven't ridden a motorcycle on almost 17 years i figured id start with a beater. something im not going to have to worry about scratches and ****. I found a sweet looking springer sportster but he says the shift lever sticks and it has no odometer. He said he'd take 2500

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/5215350171.html

I looked up the issue with the shift lever sticking and it seems to be a simple fix but im worried about the no odemeter. how can i be sure he hasnt ridden this thing to hell and back, took the odometer off and claims he has around 12k miles? Any help will be appreciated

NO way I'd pay that much for a 883 beater like this. With no odometer he has no way of knowing how many miles a bike this old has.

I'm thinking that would be the best for that bike.

Tweaker rat bike, no thanks. No odometer is probably illegal in Ca when transferring title.
With no front brake, you will end up killing yourself.

Yeah, I agree with the others. Pass. That thing looks like it's been to hell'n back. The repairs could very add up rapidly

You can find a nice unmolested stocker that functions properly for maybe just a little more.

There is no law requiring a speedometer.
