Old School Vs Modern Bikers
Something that has crossed my mind a few times lately is the number of differences between the old school bikers and the younger crowd. I'm a young guy, early 20's, and got into the scene early in my teen years. There weren't a lot of people near my age involved in things (obviously) so I came up in the south around a lot of the old school guys that my dad was involved with. A few years ago I moved to the northwest and since I've been here I have noticed that the scene has more of an influence from the younger crowd. Any of you guys have any big differences that you notice? What are your thoughts on them?

I'm an old guy, and my younger son (twenties) is also into bikes. Over here, most young guys were until recently on sports bikes in race rep leathers - only older guys rode anything else, especially Harleys. The Long Way Round TV show has increased the number of big trail-type bikes across all ages.
What I have noticed recently though is a bunch of younger guys riding Sportsters, often highly modified, or retro-styled bikes like Triumph Scramblers. My son and a number of his colleagues are among them. There's a definite "look" that goes with it, kinda hipster, with old-looking Bell 500 lids, aviators, brown leather, etc. Younger women riding, too, on the same kind of bikes.
What's interesting is that it must be a big enough trend, because the stores and manufacturers are responding to it.

It also seems that "old guys" aren't as hung-up on what they ride - it doesn't have to be new or 'popular' - and it seems more "old guys" do their own wrenching, maybe because they prefer older non-computerized bikes.
As to "limp", I wont touch that line!
