Default design flaws

I have a 2013 electra glide ultra limited. I was wondering if you guys know of any design flaws of this model? Something like tensioners and such. Really like my bike and am blessed to get to ride it about every day. Was just wondering if there was anything in particular I need to keep an eye on. Thanks!

I believe there are chain tensioners in both the primary casing and cam chest, but I don't think these are considered to be design flaws. With the introduction of the hydraulic cam chain tensioners and roller chain in the cam chest in 2007, this design was improved and maintenance is minimal. There are tons of things that I think Harley could definitely improve on, but I think classifying something as a "design flaw" is subjective, when it was clearly designed that way intentionally by H-D ...

it just seems to me you are looking for trouble without it being there. you better just replace the motor right now, maybe trade for a victory

I have the same engine, trans.,etc in my 2013 RK and have found no problems. The only complaint of the 103's is that they are little noisey in the valve train area.Keep the fluids changed and ride it.

That seems like what the majority of people that post on these types of forums do.

The rest of us just ride our bikes and laugh at the worry warts that are always looking for the next big failure.

Seems odd that you're researching design flaws after you bought the bike. If the bike runs well, just do the scheduled maintenance and enjoy the ride.

Yes as a matter of fact there is one thing in particular. Keep your eyes on the road and stop wondering about things that "might" happen! But seriously on a side note; the only design flaw that has ever really been encountered and failed to be properly addressed is the nut behind the handlebars.

I believe that Joe was asking a general question and is getting slammed by some for it.

I have the same bike as you and have had zero problems with anything. The only problem is what it is worth if you try to trade it But on the other hand it makes it more attractive!

Be religious about the maintenance and you will be fine.

I know it's a "FAN" forum...but there are plenty of "design flaws" in Harley engines in the last several years. The early Twincams had BAD bearings and a recall/extended warranty. There were cam chain tensioner wear issues on the some 88's. There were main shaft run out problems! 2006 (Dyna)recall of early six speed transmissions. 2014/15 saddlebags FALLING OFF! the new 500 and 750 recall! Fuel pump failurea, V Rod fuel gages,,2014/15 FL's that WON'T disengage their hydralic clutch!!! I could go on!etc.

There is nothing wrong asking what to watch for, when the Motor company track record of several "issues" for different model year engines and trans.!!!!
