Default To buy or not to buy

I believe this is a general discussion question and it seems that this is a specific topic and can't be found in another thread.

I recently came upon a 2006 Electra Glide for a very good deal, the only issue is the millage the bike has.. It has 70,000+ and as far as the current onwer knows, only the stator and voltage regulator has been changed. I realize that the engine will probably need to be rebulilt sooner than later. The paint and the bike itself is in very nice condition but I am just wondering would it be worth it if a good enough deal can be made?

Also, what does a moderate rebuild of these motors cost?

Any input would be appreciated.

thanks,

Why rebuild when you can replace with a S&S 124" crate motor?

Price... If I had another 6,000 I would probably get a newer bike or one with less miles.

and yea, from what I've heard the cam tensioners are known for going out often.

Find an older bike with an Evo motor.

If the bike has been properly taken care of, you shouldn't need to rebuild the motor sooner than later. There are people out there with over 100,000 miles on their bikes with the original motor.

Ain't that the truth! When it comes to reliability and higher mileage, the Evo is the way to go.

It all depends on what a "very good deal" is.

The nice thing about Harleys is that the engines are completely serviceable and rebuildable.
If you're intimidated at the thought of tearing into your bike's engine, buy a new bike or a low miler. I wouldn't be afraid of a well maintained '06 Electra Glide with 70K miles on it, but I do most of my own mechanical work.
