Does the bearing cage on a 4 speed need a lite coat of grease, a heavy coat of grease or no grease before reassemble.

A light coat. Make sure it stays in the cage. Too much grease and it will get into your clutch.

Yup coat it...lightly. Don't want bare metal on bare metal there.
I just use red axle grease.
