I bought a 1985 FLTC about 18 months ago and have been restoring/modifying it and it came time to put new tires on it. I took it to my mechanic and we were looking at how weather checked and dry rotted they were and I ask him to check how old they were when he was swapping them. The rear tire was fifteen years old and the front was the original tire from 1985. So now after eighteen months and a lot of work I can ride it and now the weather is turning colder in Michigan.

It only has 30K on it but how they got that many miles out of a front tire is beyond me...the tire was slick as a ribbon.

And I thought a bike I bought in 2013 with a '93 tire on the front was bad...

Every used bike I've bought needed new tires, more often because they were too old than worn out. Sometimes both...

The skinnier knobby is the '93, rear was newer.

Great project and you still have at least a month to ride, just break out the long johns and leathers, didn't park mine last year until the 2nd week of November.

Wow- I got chewed out pretty good in the touring forum for asking about 13 year old tires on my 2002. So you have me beat by 17 years.

When I drove it home from getting the tires installed was the first time riding it. I've changed the clutch, clutch cable, put on a S&S Super E carb and rebuilt the top end also new brake lines.

It has a windshield. Layer up and get some heated gear!

I'll get time on it before I put her away. I got enough of cold weather riding when I lived in Alaska.
