Default Shifter Peg

Changing foot and shifter pegs. Can't get the existing shifter peg (HD part no. 49149-84A)off from the shifter arm. The peg has a cover plate that hides the head of the bolt. Can't get the cover plate off. Any suggestions?

If you have a dealer or a shop close by, you can always go in and ask them how to get it off.

If you are not interested in keeping it, just cram a screw driver bade in between the peg end and the cap. The caps I have seen are just a press in to the allen socket.

Been trying that. Trying to cram a razor blade into it doesn't work.

Try using WD40 and having it soak for a few hours. Then try to pry it off.

That sounds reasonable. I'll try that when I get home.

You run an ice pick size pick in the middle and rip it out. Junk. One time use.
Then buy a whole pack, a sheet of new ones for under 15 bucks on Amazon.

those bolt cap covers usually just press on.. if you not saving it. a pr of pliers or channel- locks will do it if you can't get a screwdriver between them..

Maybe a picture would help us see what your into...

Drill a hole in the cap to get an awl or screwdriver in it to pry it off or a large enough hole to expose the head of the bolt.

Does this look similar to your situation?
