Default Harley considering changing the side stand?

Like a few other folks here, I'm on a Harley Advisory Panel and take a survey every month. This month, their survey seemed to be focused on the side stand and asked several questions about it. It seemed like they were trying to determine whether or not removing the locking feature would **** people off. I don't know anyone, not a single person, who doesn't like the locking feature of the side stand... can someone here provide a single argument AGAINST it? I would be interested to hear that point of view.

Stupid...if it isn't broke...why fix it? The "jiffy stand" is fine the way it is.

Now...if they want to fix something...why don't they find the brain surgeon who decided that the PTT switch on the Rushmore series bikes should be over on the side with the throttle. Beat that person within an inch of their life...and put the thing over on the left side where it belongs!!!!

I'm also on the advisory panel and just filled out the survey. Had a hard time believing they want to change something that works correctly. There are plenty other things that need improving.

From what I've seen, some bikes already have that feature removed.

I can't imagine why H-D thinks removing this feature is a good idea.

HD has been following the threads posted by former metric bike owners who complain about it.

Tell them to leave the Jiffy Stand alone and have a look at:

Shifters falling off
Bags falling off
Hydraulic clutch master cylinders
Compensators
And a USA source for clothing.

Other than that, I got nuthin, )

only thing I can think of that removing the locking Jiffy would help is,,, Harley could sell more Parts.. Like handle bars, Grips, levers, gas tanks Etc.. from all the people that would/could now drop their bikes without it locking...

IMO-- leave it as is.

thought a little longer about it.. I guess their are some that forget to put it up before taking off..... and getting in trouble on the next left turn......

Then Maybe just add an IDIOT light or warning buzzer when it's down and in any gear. or even kill the engine when its down and put in gear..

That would make more sense to me......

OK, maybe a dumb question, but what locking feature are you talking about?

I had a '93 Honda. It had a stand down idiot light, and if you put it gear with the stand down the engine shut off.

The jiffy stand on my TriGlide works flawlessly. Never started out with it down.

Just how do you get on a panel that advises Harley on what to do? I've been a mechanical engineer for 46 years. I would like to be on that panel. There has been hundreds of post on people complaining about it. Usually like 8 have not a clue since it is a pretty fool proof system. However, Yamaha's works fine also and it has no lock except gravity.
The lock is circled in red. It's the finger on the top of the stand that goes up into the pocket when the bike lays over..
