Default Use of neutral gear on HD motorcycles

I use the neutral gear when I park the bike. Thus, when I start it, the bike is in neutral. For redundancy I also pull the clutch all the way in as I start the bike.

Once in a great while I will go to park the bike, and for some god-awful reason I cannot find neutral. Occasionally it is difficult on my 2015 Fatboy to find the neutral gear between 1st and 2nd. Anyone else ever experience this?

But as a general rule, whenever I park, the bike is in neutral and when I start the bike it is in neutral.

Is this the agreed-upon preferred way to do things? And yes, I did ... I just want to know what the gurus here think.

Always park the bike in first. Finding neutral easy has one big factor if the clutch has been dialed in correctly, fluids. My two cents.

I always park in first just in case the bike gets bumped it wont move as easy as for neutral just reach down with your left hand before you start it and grab the shifter and give it a half click it will go in neutral every time.

Neutral on my 2010 Fat Boy Lo is easier to find if the bike is warm, not so much when it is cold.

This has shades of the 'where to put the gas cap when refueling' thread written all over it.

But on the serious side, finding neutral with the engine off is way easier than with it running, at least in my experience.

Only time my bike is parked in neutral is when it is in my garage, and on the jack. Too many things can happen to make it move and slide while sitting on the jiffy stand.
Even a strong wind........think about it.....

It's easiest to find Neutral when the bike is still rolling, just before you stop. I always park my bike in Neutral unless it's on a hill.

The only time I park my bike in neutral is in the garage. Anywhere else, it gets parked in first gear.

I'm a risk taker. I always park mine in 2nd.
