Default Seat design

I've noticed that the Harley seats have a longer tongue in recent years especially the touring models and not so much the softails. It looks like the front of the seat goes about a quarter of the up the tank. With the way they carve out the butt part (to lower the seating)and the long tongue the bike looks odd.
My question is what is the reason for the long Tongue?

it also covers the last bit of the center of the tank that the console does not cover...

custom of each could bring the seat down a bit to make it look more smooth. also I have seen some aftermarket seats that do a nicer job of keeping the "horn" lower profile.

It's nothing new, bmw did it long ago, it looks like to protect the nads.

In any case, the police seat is about where the buttocks should be for comfort.

Keeps my boys off the tank.

Other than that, I find it odd and also that the stock seats must be designed by the vertically challenged.

I've wondered about this "long seat" thing too. First, it's looks absolutely stupid and if I had the money, I'd have my seat cut back, like my Blackline was. It didn't go up the tank like my Breakout does.

I'm guessing it's for the "large stomach" riders.
