You're crazy if you don't look at used. There are an awful lot of recent vintage, low mileage bikes out there for better than bargain prices. Also, depending on circumstances, you end up paying no sales tax on top of that.
I'm only 6' plus and little light at 175, but long in the leg (33"). Pre 97 baggers had a higher frame by one inch, according to Motorcycle on Line review for the 1997 bagges. i bought a 96 EGlide Classic, cause it was in my price range at the time, and now won't give it up. I bought an 01 EGlide to convert to a trike for the Loan Officer to ride and having ridden it for about a 1000 miles before the conversion, I'll stay with my 96. My knees feel like they were in my ears and just for the doubters out there; the 01 has the standard 12 inch screen and my 96 has an aftermarketr 14 - 1/2 inch screen and I see over each of them at nearly the same forward point distance. Frame and seat are stock on each.
Check out a good EVO (80 inch) pre 97. Aftermarket seats and bars are an alternative, but so is the "previously owned" bagger.
I'm 6'3", and WG with extended controls fits great. A Superglide with extended forwards would be OK on a budget.
That's what I'm thinking. I've got a 6'5" 315 lb riding partner who liked my superglide with forward controls better than he liked his road king, fit and comfort wise. Superglide is a great bike on a budget with a lot of possibilitys. Forward controls or extended forward controls will be a must though.
