Default H.O.G. Chapter

As a new rider with a new bike I am new to the H.O.G. chapter thing. I get my membership card and atlas in the mail yesterday. Is there anything else I need to do? Will someone from the local chapter contact me or do I need to contact them if I want to get involved?

Welcome to the Forums from Central IL. You will need to contact them if wanting to join locally as far as I know. I only keep it up nationally for the AT&T discount since it more than pays for itself.

Just stop into the local dealer and ask. Generally they don't actively recruit. It is not that type of organization. They welcome you with a smile but they don't come chase you down. Just ask next time you stop in.

HOG is a good "What to do when you're new" organization. Learn to ride from MSF then do some HOG events. Don't know your experience level but HOG has a place for folks new to Harley.

They will be able to tell you about what there group does, and may invite you come to a meeting or on a ride. If there are several dealers close by, try them all.

Thanks for the information. I did not buy at the local dealer but one about an hour away. MSF course was great. I had not rode for 30 years. Its been 13 days since buying the bike and I have been on it 8.

There are two HOG's. The freebie you got with your bike is the national group. You get your atlas, magazine, stickers, patches, discounts, towing, etc.
Then there is the local group, that one is the social/riding group. Go to your local dealer to get info. on that. Not sure, since I don't belong, but there may be fees or dues for the local group. After your free national membership year is up, you'll have to pay to continue. I found little value so I let mine lapse, but I am still getting renewal notices 6 months after it expired.
