Hello. I'm curious to know if anyone has traded down from an Ultra to a Heritage Softail. I love my Ultra but as I get older I'm beginning to have issues with the height and weight of the Ultra. The knees just aren't what they used to be. Ha. I have looked at the Ultra Low but truthfully it's just more than I can afford right now. The Heritage has a lower saddle height and is lighter and much more affordable. Plus the 2016's now have cruise control. I probably won't be doing any two up riding nor will I be doing any more long trips. On the surface it seems the Heritage would fit my needs pretty well but I'm afraid if I trade I will miss my Ultra and not be happy with the Heritage. Has anyone else been faced with this problem? Also, I tried a Trike and didn't like it at all.

I tawt dem Ultras were pretty low seat height wise.

 

I'm sure you have thought about taking off your tour pac? Send your seat to Mean City Cycles? Lower it a little? You will still have the weight in the fairing though? My knees are shot and I can do my SG ok. The RG is a better bike for front end weight too... You might not be too pleased going back to a softail?

 

Heritage is about 2 inches lower and abit over 100 pounds lighter. I can touch ground on my Ultra but don't have much leverage if I need to move or whatever. Especially if I'm in a gravel parking lot.

Bill, I tried the Harley low seat but it also pushes rider forward and wasn't comfortable. I have saw several folks mention Mean City Cycles. I will check with them. Thanks.

 

Maybe you should slowly trade down. From Ultra to Road king. I use to have a RGU then went to RK

 

Have you ridden a Heritage?

 

You can easily remove 100 lbs of stuff off your Ultra, and, make it lower.

Basically just start taking off stuff that you dont need, like remove the tour pack and the rear speakers, remove the mount hardware, remove the lowers and crash bar, remove the CB and wires.

Remove the wrap around saddlebag hardware and replace with the aftermarket mount bracket.

Replace the seat with a Badlander or a slim type of aftermarket seat.

Change out the heavy dual exhausts for a 2-1.

You will be amazed at how much stuff you can take off, and, how nice the Ultra feels without all that stuff on it.

Just make it a Street Glide.

 

Rick, I haven't ridden a Heritage yet. I plan to maybe in the next week or so. Have you? What do you think? And Blueflame, those are all good ideas on removing stuff. Maybe just removing stuff and getting a lower saddle would do the trick. Certainly something to think about. One of my concerns on the Heritage are the semi apehanger bars. Not sure I would like that.

 

I absolutely love my Heritage. The mini apes on the Heritage are great. They put my arms at the right height and reach and the look good too.

It's not a 100 pounds lighter but the weight difference is all off the top, literally.
