Default First HD Purchase

Hello HD Forum Members,

I'm look to purchase my first HD after riding Honda motorcycles for the past 15 years. I know fair pricing for the Japanese bikes but when it comes to the HD i'm not that in tune with price. So, I'm looking for some expertise on this forum.

This is what I'm look at:

1999 Harley Road King,Twin Cam 5 Speed. Fuel Injected .Dripping in Chrome,Leather Hard Bags,Rare Factory Purple Paint .Reinhart Duals. Oil Pressure Guage,Quick Release Windshield And Backrest.Runs And Looks Mint. $8,500. Has 65,000 KMS.

Also, what questions should I ask from the owner regarding up to date serving done on the bike?

Is this a reasonable price for end of season buy or can I do a lower offer??

Thank you all for your input.

Rob

Service records. Who performed the service. What mods to the engine. Tire wear. Check oil level. Have him give you a ride if he won`t let you test ride it alone. See if original parts are included. If everything looks good then have YOUR mechanic go over it. Might cost you some but what the hell. Also look at the other bike too..

Sure someone else will chime in and post this in the touring section too!

Too much,, I could have had a 2001 fully decked with chrome and extra goodies for $7,500,,
Use the NADA as a guide in your search,, just enter year and model;
https://www.google.com/search?q=NADA...utf-8&oe=utf-8

It can be a PITA with Harleys and the chrome stuff, sellers can have a lot of money invested in Chrome add-on's,, the deal is you don't have to be obligated to pay for his investment,
Keep shopping, Winter is a good time to buy, but it's a good idea to spend 2-3months saturating yourself with the local market venues to understand the price range and find a bargain.

If you are talking $8,500 Canadian, that would be about $6,350 American. If that is the case, it might not be such a bad deal. If you are talking $8,500 American, then the price seems too high to me. 65,000 kilometers would be bit over 40,000 miles.

I don't think anybody in the States can tell you a reasonable price to pay for the bike in Canada. Harley prices in Canada are significantly higher than the US. Here is what Canadian Blue Book says:

1999 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHR Road King*
Retail Low: $9,568.00 Retail High: $10,660.00
