WD40 with 0000 Steel wool. Make sure it is 0000!

Easy, no mess. If it's heavy you might need to soak it with a WD40 soaked rag.

Works better than, and less mess than other recommendation such as oven cleaner.

try to get copper wool if you can, it is softer than the chrome. You can usually find it at marina's if no where else.

I used denatured alcohol and a cotton swab. Soaked it, let it sit for a few minutes, a little rubbing, and it all came off.

If you don't have any denatured alcohol, 80 proof vodka is 40% alcohol. Plus, it gives you something to do while you let it soak.

Spray regular canned Lysol on it, that will remove anything.

I know this thread is a few days old. I've used this to remove some nasty melted stuff, after dropping one of my gloves on the exhaust. It took 4 applications. Good luck.
