Default Why Do????

Why do people take their bikes to a dealership just for a fluid change and clutch adjustment?

We all know the dealerships will screw us out of every cent they can.
It literally takes approx. 30 minutes to change all fluids and adjust your clutch.

Are individuals getting SO lazy they refuse to do their own maintenance????

I can understand if somebody doesn't have the mental or physical ability or on a road trip and you don't want to dump the old fluids into the earth because you can't tote around a fluid pan and a couple of gallon jugs but other than that, why????
It's a waste of money!!!

Personally, I have more time than money plus I rest assured it was done correctly and acquire the knowledge for the future to come.
Money in the bank, so to speak.

Some people have neither the ability (see the many stripped, broken, wrong plug removed threads) nor the inclination (see wallet biker thread). Or simply don't want to bother. And some don't have the place for it.

To some that have more money than time, it may be worth it to them.

Some people just don't know how to use tools.
Or they have more money than time.

If they don't change the oil in their car, what makes you think they would do it on their bike?.,,,

Some very good points mentioned.

Round peg in round hole.
Square peg in round hole = BFH.

To me, knowledge is power and self sufficiency.

If one finds themselves in no-mans land where the cell phones don't work and money just doesn't help you in those instances.......

Not just maintenance but the simple things which can ruin your day or trip.

I guess they are just SCREWED.

They can complete a 2-4-6-8-10 year course of study in their profession but can't read and understand a service manual, WTH???

Are these the possers???

Not that I'm busting anybody's chops personally but seem to overlook that common sense it something of the past.

How the hell does somebody fly a plane, jump onto a drag bike, builds a house, etc., etc,, without having the knowledge of how to's & knowing the basic's about it???

There are many people out there that don't know the difference between a spark plug and an air filter. Those are the people that should have all the service on their bike done by a shop. There are also people out there that have plenty of money and, don't want to get their hands dirty.

On the other hand how many people think a service is just a fluids change and a clutch adjustment ?

I used to do all my own routine maintenance.. Now I let a local Indy do it. I like to ride not wrench for the most part. I'll still do minor clutch adjustments and stuff between 5k intervals, but for the most part its just easier having someone else do it.

Riptide;
Money makes a community work.
As said some folks have more money then time,, it may not mean much to them to spend some money for shop time.
The dealer, the mechanic, the parts person all draw a wage that they use to spend on goods they need,,, get it?

You don't have money,, you have time,, you like wrenching,, a surgeon or a dentist may not like wrenching, he uses his hands a different way, but he likes to take care of his bike.
Don't dog others because they don't have your values.
