Default Oil change every 2500 mi?

Howdy,

Picked up my road glide special yesterday and the service manager told me to change the oil every 2500 miles.

I should also mentioned that as part of the pitch for the Pit prepaid service, it is included.

Have you also been told this?

I just traded in a street glide 2008 I put 75,000 trouble free miles on and only did service at 5000 miles. I checked, but did not change the oil periodically in between.

Every 2500 miles seems a bit much.

Harley's own service schedule only requires every 5k.

You are not going to be able to tell the difference if you do it ever 10K.

I was told, for synthetic oil, it's 5k. For standard oil, it's 2500.

Yep, saw that in the manual myself. Hard to imagine the engines would be that fragile. Just never heard anyone say that before, even a salesmam. I've never done that on either Harley and I rode them long.

No a total and complete waste of money and time. HD engineers have specified 5,000 miles-period!

However the other rule is one year. So if you do less than 5K/yr go ahead and change it at 12 months. What ever comes first.

Reputable dealers will not tell customers 2,5K. I would not do business with them even for free hot dogs!

I change the oil in my evo every 2k, but it spends a lot of time near red line.

When I had my 13' Fat Bob, I use to do mine every 2,500 miles but that bike held less oil and didn't have an oil cooler - telling you you HAVE to do it sounds like a sales pitch to get you in more often so they can sell you more things

I would just go by what my owner's manual says. I think its every 5,000 miles. That does sound to me like he wants to get you in and make more money off of you.
