I haven't ridden from the lower 48 up but I lived in Fairbanks and Anchorage and you will want to really plan out your fuel stops. If you make this ride you will never forget it Alaska is one of the most beautifulplaces you will ever see.
It's on my radar. Just trying to gain some insight and make time for the trip. It will take atleast a month to enjoy the trip from Mississippi and back.
Anyone ridden their Harley to Alaska from the lower 48?
Twice. and I'm doing a round trip this summer. Its a great experience with some of the most beautiful scenery you'll ever imagine. Plus a whole lot of wilderness with very few people. Life is an excellent adventure.
I've heard that the locals call people who tour on bicycles "meals on wheels" because of the bears. I wonder if the same holds true for motorcyclist? On a side note, I stopped next to a groupof bull buffalos a couple of weeks ago. There weren't any fences between the road and the buffalos. Those bastards are really, really big. Didn't kill the engine in case they decided to charge.
I haven't got to yet, but it's been one of my goals for years. My oldest son lives in Juneau now, so I've got more incentive to do it!
Juneau is beautiful but you can't ride there. No roads into the state capital. You can take a ferry though, also agorgeous trip. You can sign up for the Annual Juneau Rain Festival, starts Jan 1, thru Dec 31. Have fun!
