I go inside, pay with cash .
There have been news reports that criminals are now able to install card readers
INSIDE the pump to steal credit card numbers. They can do it in as little as one minute. This is in the greater Cincinnati area.

I pay at the pump. I get a text message from my bank every time I make a purchase. So I would know if card is stolen.
I use a debit card, but run it as credit.

Always go in and pay in cash for the same reasons as Cozz, in this area in Michigan the card reader scam is in full effect...

Card skimmers are rapidly becoming a problem everywhere...my son's GF just had her debit# stolen and the perps racked $300 in charges. Bank quickly took action and she's credited w/new card. Other than paying cash, your #'s can get intercepted in many ways/fashions/forms...all it takes is the right hack tools and ingenuity. Your best defense is (1) monitoring statements, (2) add transaction alerts and (3) new smart chip cards.

Pay at pump unless I want to buy something inside. The card reader theft thing isn't new, that's been happening for years. Not widely reported around here. Paying at the pump has not caused me any problems so far.

I pay at the pump. From what I've heard; "Debit" cards are much more susceptible to hacks than "Credit" cards, so I always use one of those. No problemo so far.

Card reader scam has been around for quite some time now. I've been hit twice. Thing to remember is the thief will go for the pump farthest away and out of sight of the store cashier. Use the pump up front and closest to the store. Now with that said, waiters can be the worst. Any time you hand your card over to someone for payment who has to walk away to a remote register you're vulnerable.
It's best use a bank that offers protection, mine calls me if the charge is out of area.

Skimmers are old news. Like mentioned above...be smart in the gas pumps you use. Some stations are well monitored too, others aren't. And you can generally see a skimmer...they can stick out like a sore thumb.

Ron,
Please educate me, is using it as a credit card a safer option?

On Topic, I pay at the pump.
