Card skimmers are rapidly becoming a problem everywhere...my son's GF just had her debit# stolen and the perps racked $300 in charges. Bank quickly took action and she's credited w/new card. Other than paying cash, your #'s can get intercepted in many ways/fashions/forms...all it takes is the right hack tools and ingenuity. Your best defense is (1) monitoring statements, (2) add transaction alerts and (3) new smart chip cards.

Card reader scam has been around for quite some time now. I've been hit twice. Thing to remember is the thief will go for the pump farthest away and out of sight of the store cashier. Use the pump up front and closest to the store. Now with that said, waiters can be the worst. Any time you hand your card over to someone for payment who has to walk away to a remote register you're vulnerable.
It's best use a bank that offers protection, mine calls me if the charge is out of area.
