Most exhaust websites have videos. Start there.

After much piddling around, here's what I wound up with and very much like: Slip-ons with baffles removed and DK Thunder Torque (lollipops) installed. The TT inserts leave plenty of sound volume and provide the resonant back pressure needed to conserve power. The sound is loud but not the hollow trumpeting sort of obvious loud you get with simple baffle removal. One thing is for sure, if you try em and don't like them, you won't be out a hell of a lot of $$. Check em out on the DK Custom site >.

Agreed, I've gone the same route several times with the TTI's and baffles removed; the TTI's have multiple benefits like improving low and mid performance, helping to prevent reversion and they also deepen the tone of the pipes

Spend time looking and listening...and looking and listening.

Where there are gatherings of bikes....pay attention, look at the pipes, listen to them as they pull up, leave, start up, etc.

I'm pretty sure yours is old enough (that's a good thing) to not have cat converters in there yet...so you have hope of sounding decent.

Not sure if yours is carb'd or FI'd...if carb'd...even better sounding.

The rest of it is..."What sounds good to you?" What people love for a sound of course varies based on the person. Some people just love loud and blatty. Others like a deep rumble. Others like a roar.

I'm picky with the sounds I love...not only at idle...but I'm a fan of a proper sound when cruising at highways speeds...I get memorized and put in a trance the way my Shovel hits a certain cadence coming from those pipes at 65mph.

A carbed Evo always sounds great. My carbed 02 Softail with cams, V&H Staggered Straight shots w/BCT Thunder Monster baffles sounds incredible. Best bet is to hang out around a large gathering of bikes to get the full effect.
