Default Cam Suggestions?

I bought a 2003 Fatboy at the end of September. I have 3,000 miles on it so far and I am really enjoying it. It is stock with the exception of Screaming Eagle II slip on's. In the spring I am going to upgrade the exhaust. The frontrunner is the V&H Propipe, but second place is Rinehart Crossbacks. I am also considering a Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather and cam upgrades. I am looking mostly for low end torque and a harder hitting POTATO,POTATO sound. The cams I am considering in order of preference are Andrews 26 or 21. Any idea of expectations from these cam configurations, from personal experience, is appreciated. For this question, we will assume the exhaust will be the Propipe. TIA

Andrews 21s are a popular choice for 88" engines with stock compression. If you get the 21Ns, you can install the 96"-type hydraulic cam chain tensioners and high volume oil pump. I used 26Ns with my 95" build.

Sound ... Sound ... Sound ... One of the major prerequisites for cam choice? Well, you might try the SE-204. I cannot tell you how compatible it is with those pipes.

I have the 26H in my 06 88, bought them because they were bolt in and the guy had changed his mind. Bought them for $100 new! They gave it a bit more lope than before and a nice gain in low end. I am very happy with the performance, it works perfect for my riding style.

I have a 06 fat boy with a pro pipe and a 204, runs nice and everywhere I go people tell me how good it sounds. Sounds as close to a Evo as you will get with just a bolt in cam.

The son has had two bikes 07 Deuce and a 9 NT with 204 cams.. Those cams have a nice lope to them.. but choose the pipes wisely or they can be soft under 3K rpms... even with good pipes they don't come on really good till 2700

I went with Andrew 26's in my 07 Heritage... for putting around riding in the 1800 to 2500 rpm range on the Heritage riding two up they are great cams for low end TQ and I am totally happy with them.

for an 88''er most like the 21's for good LOW-MID TQ... they come on about 250 rpms earlier than the 26's. but that also means they will start falling off the same.

overall any of the three would be a good pick, but the andrews cams will not Lope as much as the 204's at Idle..

Andrews 26 or SE204 are both good choices always recommended, I have 26H in my 07 96" and they do well.

OP should consider possible future performance mods when choosing a cam, so he doesn't have to swap cams twice.
