Default Evel Knievel - HD XR750

I watched a History channel special on Evel Knievel last night. It was a nice 60-70's falshback LOL! I still think it's cool that he rode Harley Davidson XR-750 motorcycles. That may be why he crashed alot, the XR 750 was a heavy flat track bike, the motorcross motorcycle technology wasnt there for him. Now they have light weight Motorcross bikes like the ones his son Robbie uses. Evel laid the foundation for the many stunt riders after him.

years and years ago back when I was a kid they made a movie about Evil Knievel and I remember a few parts about it, like when he jumped off of a cliff or over a fence or something to get away from the cops, and when he rode his motorcycle up the staircase to his girlfriends room, and when he was in a jail cell with a guy named Kadawful and a cop walks up and said something like "it looks like we caught the Evil Knievel and the Awful Kadawful." Now I'm not real sure about the spelling, but you get the idea how Evil Knievel got his name.

I remember hearing that as well. On some documentaries they claim Harley bikes were lighter and faster, then previous bikes he used. Not sure what is true.

I did see him on a Triumph in the film. At some point he was sponsored by Harley Davidson so I can imagine he rode the bikes from whoever sponsored him.

My favorite Evel Knievel quote: "Nobody wants to see me die, but they don't want to miss it if I do".

Norton and Triumphs, they were all street bikes.
The bikes today are light weight with a more power, not to mention they are specifically designed for jumping.

IIRC the stuff Evel used was slightly modified with sport handlebars and sprocket changes, apart from that they were stock iron street bikes.

It was called "Evel Knievel" (1971) I saw it in the theater when I was a kid.

Every year Butte Montana (Evels home town) hosts an event called Evel Knievel days in July. Worth going to if you're in the area. http://evelknieveldays.org
