Default What a mess!

My poor Road King is finally coming apart. I knew there was 285 reasons I got it for 3 grand, and expected plenty of work so it's all good. Valves are so thick with crud I probably gained some compression points, and the broken breather gear explains a lot. Cylinders and the rest of it are surprisingly in good shape. Going to do heads, cam, .020 over, ignition, exhaust and a paint job in black and orange similar to my old Heritage...The green picture is how it was when I bought it, the black pic was after a few repairs to make it road worthy last year. Going to start de-greasing parts tonight....I'll keep ya all posted on the progress.

The whole bike was "maintained" just like the exhaust. The guy rode it to my house so I knew it ran and rode but I wouldn't ride it until a bucket of repairs got done. He had a too long seat bolt in it, cut the tire so bad you could hear it leaking when he pulled in. was kinda comical but I wanted to slap him for even riding the thing there.

Probably picked up a couple of M'sPH with the flat streamlined shape and the weight saving speed holes though.

I knew I wasn't paying for much but I wanted another project. Sold my CVO Ultra when I got this one. I pulled up at the local and up comes an ultra just like mine, can't have that. This will be lots more fun when it's done. I just left Menards with 85 bucks worth of rags, degreaser, brushes, gloves ect. Guess I need beer on the way home now too. Will be a long night to get the oil off this one! I still need the rocker box gaskets, got everything else ready. Ported heads with fresh valves, Andrews EV27, Super E, new clutch, 45 amp stator, we made the 23" apes, with a buddies bender, and next week I'll start prepping it for paint. This is a photo of my old Heritage I went through a few years ago. Going to paint it similar to this. I've never painted the same thing twice but this was my favorite job I did for myself so I'm going with the same idea..

Deep inside every beast lays a beauty waiting to be awoken - can't wait to see the final project
