WD-40 for cable lube?

WD-40 is a lot thinner than cable lube/grease. It evaporates quickly and will likely not stay in the cable for long. If the cable was sticking due to corrosion/rust WD-40 would help break it free but I would not use it as a lube replacement.
You should look into a non-aerosol cable lube. Also, check and make sure your APO box accepts petroleum products.

A can of proper lube lasts a very long time indeed. If German pricing is an issue, can you partner up with 2-3 other riders and chip in on a can of Motion Pro or something ? You'd all be set for years.
