I usually sit out these loud pipe threads, but I'm going to jump in here.

Before I ever started riding I was exiting a rural gas station, where it is very dark. It was summer, so I had my window rolled down. I could hear a motorcycle, but I couldn't see him. I did a triple take, and finally saw that his headlight blended into the headlight of the car behind him. If he didn't have loud pipes, I probably would have pulled in front of him.

So there is one instance of loud pipes saving a crash. When I bought my FLHTCUI, the previous owner had loud pipes. I asked him for the stock pipes, and intended to put them back to stock. But I kept the loud pipes when I figured out it had a Stage One. And I like having moderately Loud Pipes. I don't assume everyone hears, or sees me, but it can't hurt to be heard easier.

Totally agree. Great shirt and loud pipes DO grab the attention of clueless mf'ers who look for "who's making that racket" in their mirrors. I have no doubt I'm better off for having loud pipes than flying past silently.

I think a good balance of both goes hand in hand in saving lives.....
I think a more important factor in saving lives is getting drivers to putting down their phones, coffee, make-up, food and start paying attention....

That shirt does give me a good laugh. On the semi serious side, I guess you could say learning how and when to use those loud pipes might also help. I kinda like mine a little loud. Anything that gives me a better chance of not being in an accident is a bonus.

Both of these! And don't forget that bright LED lighting front and rear also seem to enhance visibility bigtime!
