Daytona-Main St-Cars & Trucks
Daytona is arguably the 2nd largest rally in the world, yet it continues to allow cars & trucks to drive up and down Main St. I don't know of any other rally, big or small, that doesn't make its main drag "Bikes Only" during the entire rally. Laconia has Lakeside Ave & Sturgis has Main St closed down to all other vehicles during their events. Why not Daytona? Daytona currently closes Main St to "Bikes Only" for the first weekend of the event and then opens it to all other vehicles, yahoos, and drunks that want to cruise up and down the street the rest of the event. I've asked and complained to the C of C about this and they claim I am the only person who has ever brought up the subject. I have a tough time believing that. I would also like to change that.
If you would like to have Main St "Bikes Only" during Bike Week please send an email to this address politely mentioning your feelings. Maybe, together, we can make Daytona a real Bike Week: Janet@DaytonaChamber.com

The slow traffic probably won't change, but it should be all motorcycles. Btw, the person who will receive the message is the person who thought up, started and promoted Biketoberfest. Please send her an email.

Miami,
Try visiting Main St the 50 weeks a year when Bike Week or Biketoberfest isn't going on. Main St isn't exactly in a high class area It isn't even in a middle income area. Maybe a half step up from the slums. A lot of residents don't even own a vehicle. The people driving cars and trucks on Main St during Bike Week don't live anywhere near there. Maybe they're all from Palm Coast where there is nothing ever going on.

20 years ago it used to be closed to traffic. When they changed I assumed it was to appease the city elders.
It was slow going (same as today) even when it was motorcycles only then too.
I wish they would close Main again.
And Fat Boy is correct. The rest of the year Main street is virtually empty. Still fun to ride there on Sundays for a beer though. Boot Hill Saloon is more my style when it isn't bike week or biketoberfest.
