Default Bike made for international use

I got a 05 RK, when i bought it it was never disclosed that it was made for canada. Is there any to tell if the bike was shipped with a KPH Vs Mph speedo. I was trying to trade up and DLR said was unable to verifiy miles because it came from Canada. Will the ECM catch up if the speedo was changed? Or should i get legal counsel. Any and all help

Thanks

Canada is not really classified as an international bike. I found out the hard way. The only difference I know of is the serial number. No problem changing the speedo but you will be starting off at 0 or close to it so original mileage isn't shown and can't be officially known. You can convert KPH to MPH though (math). International means anywhere over the big pond. I dropped or rather my bike fell over and broke both left signals and I had to buy one thinking it was inter. only came with two wire instead of three. $100 bucks to find out. If it was sent to Canada it def was KPH.

Yup, since 1978 any vehicle destined for sale in Canada has had a kph speedo/odo, no exceptions.

Canadian HD's have a 5 as the first number in the VIN as opposed to a 1 for US bikes.

The gas tanks on the Canadian bikes are a little larger in order to accomodate the imperial gallon rather than the slightly smaller US gallon.

That was the new Canadian vehicle import law from April 1st back a few years ago ; )

Legal counsel for what? Im assuming that since you want to upgrade, you have owned the bike for a while. I also assume that you registered the bike. There is no duty to disclose that a bike is Canadian. Additionally you could have (very easily) and should have confirmed the bikes identity through vin or the km odometer (since it sounds like that is whats on there). Any failure here was on you for not doing due diligence. If dealer will not trade, sell private party.
