Default Riding safe saved me yesterday

I was riding home from work yesterday when I came up to one of three stop lights on my route. I was sitting behind a Toyota and had a clear lane behind me. To my left was the left turn lane with cages and to my right, one cage at the light. I watched as a car came up behind moving fast. I realized that it wasn't going to stop in time and accelerated between the left turn lane and the lane I was originally in. 16 year old in Mom's Tahoe was texting and wound up hitting the Toyota that was in front of me. Threw it completely through the intersection. If I hadn't left some type of escape route, I would be dead right now.

The worst part about the whole thing was the 16 year olds reaction. She was more worried about her broken phone than she was the condition of the driver of the Toyota she hit. She could give a rats *** less that if I hadn't moved, she would have killed me. Stay safe out there people.

Glad you are safe! It isnt just the youngsters these days.

the 72 year old that actually hit me when he made an illegal turn was more worried about his tacoma.

Keep that head on a swivel and great job paying attention to your surroundings!

Smart thinking. Glad you made it out safe. If you had loud pipes all you would have to do is rev it a few times and she would have heard you. Just kidding. I always try to leave an out.

man, now that's being attentive. That's the exact way it's supposed to work in that situation. You're now the poster boy for this situation. I'll try and learn from your experience.

Reminds me of a infamous (horrible) crash where I live. Happened 17 years ago. A drunk woman ran through a red stop light hitting a car with 5 teenagers in it. 4 died, the 5th had bad injuries. The drunk was driving a Mitsubishi Montero and had only minor injuries. All she could ask the police at the scene was: "How is my dog"?

Someone should have grabbed her phone, slammed it to the pavement, and smashed it into a million pieces. And then smacked her upside the head.

Nice to hear a successful traffic encounter, glad your witts about you.
