Default Wide Tires and Slow Race Competitions

A number of the biker rallies I attend have motorcycle field events or as most call them, biker games. One of the popular events is called the slow race. The rules are the last one to cross the finish line without putting your foot down wins. It seems to me the people that have these bikes with the wide tires have an unfair advantage. Hell, you can almost stop, stand still and balance yourself with a tire that wide! Some of these bikes are running car tires with a 245mm width (and larger) that is basically a wide and flat piece of rubber contact patch. Maybe these bikes should be placed in a specific class for wide tires or just banned from this competition.

When I was nine I took 1st place in a slow race on my Schwinn. It had skinny tires.

Adults doing biker games, is that even a thing??

I attend many bike rallies a year...I have NEVER seen a wide tire bike win. Most wide tire bikes are raked out which makes them suck at low speed. I have an easyriders video with a guy on an old military bike with real skinny tires...he could completely stop the bike till everyone else crossed the finish line. Slowrace is all skill. Post a video of a wide tire bike winning a slow race.

I can see where it would look like the wide tires would be an advantage but like mentioned above, I never see those bikes win.

Went to the Easyrider Rodeo in Connecticut in the late 80's. The guy that won the slow race did the same thing every heat. Rode out to the middle of the course and stopped, completely and balanced the bike without moving an inch. He would just hang out like that until everyone else crossed the finish line, then he would haul *** across the line as the winner. A skill.

The slow races around here wouldn't allow you to stop your bike.
If you stopped you were disqualified.

Its been a while so maybe the rules have changed.

All of them I've been to going back about 35-40 years have only had a rule about not putting your foot down and staying in the boundaries. Different areas may have different rules.

Here is a few cool pics I found of some vintage games.

Nope, it's a practiced skill, big boot's have no advantage.
I've won my share and for me it's all about rpm and clutch control.
It usually don't get tough until the 2nd or 3rd round when you weed out the wanna be's.

While I agree that the wide tire raked out chopper pictured in an earlier reply isn't the best tool for winning a slow race, that wasn't the type of bike I was referring too. I was thinking more in lines of a HD V-Rod or a Victory Hammer. Take a look at the below picture (Victory Hammer with a 245 car tire) and tell me you couldn't just stop and balance yourself on that ride. That bike will almost sit upright without using a jiffy stand.
