Default Lights in the speedo.,,,

I noticed yesterday after I start the bike '05 Road King fi, the yellow CEL and the Key light come on for about 5 seconds, then go out. What does that mean?. The bike runs fine otherwise.,,,

'Sposed to do that. Bike is going through it's diagnostic check, the same way your cars idiot lights come on when you start it.

Don't start your bike 'till all the lights go out.

I thought that if the CEL and key light come one after starting, you have a stored code. Also, check your fob battery (if you have one). I think it can do that if the fob battery is weak. I could be wrong for both.

Routinely, once my CEL turns off from initial ignition on, it does not come back on. As long as my fob is present, my key light does not come on at all, or if at start up, it goes out quick.

I wondered this myself when I first got my bike.

I thought the question was going to be about the light not coming on until it gets dark. I've covered my speedometer to get it to come on when it was semi dark. My last bike was the same way. I first noticed it, when I pulled into the carport late one day and it came on.

I know! I'm not sure if it's a power saving gimmick or what. Still, it's what it does.

Mine is also light sensor'd. The logic I see in it, is to save bulb life. The light is not needed when it is full daylight outside. Since the headlight is on all the time, it can't be turned on and off with the headlights like in a car. I think it's pretty damn smart of them.
