Good read.
These guys do it every year. The bikes are all pre-1917 models.

I went to Victorville, CA one year where they were stopping on the cannonball run.
It was nice to see all the bikes.
But.....Man......there was lots of oil on the ground.....everywhere!
The two bikes in the story above are in a lot better condition that some of those I saw on the cannonball run. Many had lots of hose clamps and bailing wire.
That would sure be an adventure riding across the country that slow, where you can see the countryside.

We still do it. Last ride included a '39 Flathead, '38, '41, '47 Knuckles, a '46 Chief, '52, '62 Pans, '77 and (my) '79 Shovel. There were no breakdowns. We don't do Cannonball pace though. 55 mph is generally the limit. Sometimes when Johnny brings his '26 JD w/sidecar, he leaves before us and meets us later (it only does about 45). Not coast-to coast either, but several hundred miles is common.

I would do it for sure. My biggest issue is not having anyone to ride with that would be willing to only go 50 MPH all day long. That is cruising speed on my Flattie. I can only imagine how crazy that would drive me if I was on a modern bike lugging along. I need more friends with antique bikes. I would love to try riding up to Laconia on my Flathead this year. And the next problem, no room for passengers so what do I do with the wife.
