Default Dieseling normal?

Good morning all. I have a 2014 breakout with V&H big radius pipes. I have a stage one kit on it as well. No tuner. Not sure if the bike has been remapped. I bought it used from a dealer. The bike diesels a lot coming off the throttle. Is that normal? Would a tuner help that or is it just what I have to live with?

On another note, any recommendations for an economical tuner?

Thanks,
Brian

Diesels coming off the throttle? Can't be. You must be talking about decel pop.

Dieseling is a term used for when the engine continues to run after the ignition is turned off. As said, you are probably experiencing decal pop. This can be caused by a exhaust leak or a poor tune.

short answer yes and no.

Mine still has the factory tune and if I'm buzzing along and just let the throttle snap back, yes I'll get some.. if I roll it back no.

someone mentioned exhaust leak or tune above.. probably more often the tune. They run these lean from the factory.

Check for exhaust leak and fix as needed.

As far as the tune is concerned, you'll get different answers on this. Some people demand that the tune completely gets rid of all popping. Even with a well tuned bike you may get a pop sometimes. Popping due the tune is not harmful to the engine, it's just annoying. If it was a "POP POP POP POP POP" every time I got off the throttle I'd be doing something about it. Our bikes are well tuned but under certain conditions there might be a pop or two and I don't worry about it.

popping in the exhaust is caused by an exhaust leak or if you have free flowing pipes it can be reverstion. check for an exhaust leak first.

Popping is unburned fuel combusting when it enters the exhaust pipe. Nothing harmful about it. Chopping the throttle causes a suddenly lean condition, which causes the mixture in the cylinder to burn out before all the gas is used up. You can tune the engine to have a richer mixture and reduce or even eliminate the decel pop. I'd pull the plugs and see if the engine's running too lean all the time. If it is, retune it. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

To answer your question about economical, look into the XIEDs. There are a couple of different types, but you can hook up for around $100. They're simple devices that plug into your O2 sensor wires and trick the ECM into added more fuel. More fuel is what you need to get the motor from running too lean. They might even reduce the decel pop, even though the decel pop itself is not harmful.
