Default Black license plates in California

Anyone have the new black plates on their bikes? If so, how did you get them? I tried a few times online. But it wouldn't go through. You have to go into DMV?
Thanks a lot.

I had to print out the form and mail it in. You can't do MC black plates online.

This. I don't think you can do any motorcycle plates online. They don't tell you that anywhere either.

Also it's considered personal at the same rates whether you customize it or go sequential. I went sequential, I don't much care for personal plates.

I tried online also. I called the DMV and was told I had to go in to my local office to get the black plate.
I went to AAA and they are unable to get the black plate at this time. Or so they said. So off to the DMV I went. Initially DMV employee did not know about the black plates. After they talked to the supervisor had no problems. Got the plate pretty fast also, about one week.

Good luck..

Black plates are definatly old school. Are they stamped or printed. Stamped black would be awesome.

I remember seeing black with yellow letters in some old movies.

Many years ago, Texas use to rotate black with white numbers/letters and vice versa, every year. I don't remember when that stopped.

They are stamped metal. The only difference from the old ones are the new ones use reflective paint on the numbers.

White on black porcelain plates were used in DE till the early 50s. A lot of coin changes hands with the sale of single 2, 3 and 4 digit tags that are registerable. I"ve heard of 2 digit tags going for high 5 to 6 figure prices.
