Default Do you warm up your bike?

Yes, I searched. Results were assless chaps and voter fraud...

Anyways, when I had the Sporty with the carb, I would typically let it idle for maybe 5 minutes or so before a ride.

Now with the EFI is it necessary?

Does it hurt? Does it help?

Nope.
05 carbed Dyna.
Choke it, start it, drop it in gear and leave.
No more than 2-3 seconds from start to wheels rolling.

Bikes are designed to run their best at operating temperature. Oil works better at operating temperature. The only thing that might not be good for the motor is running with the choke full on for extended periods. Excess gas will cause fuel dilution, and can show up in a used oil test. The oil will show up to be thinner then it should be,,,

When I had my FI twinkie years ago....barely a minute then slowly pull out driveway, slowly head down the street. Didn't get to "fast" roads until over a mile away.

Past 3 bikes since then have been carb'd. I let them idle another minute or two.

To me..the key is...not to "get on them" heavy until they're warmed up. But barely above idle going down my driveway in first gear...then gently taking off down the road at 35mph....getting to 45mph after another half mile...not getting to 60 til another mile...that's what I consider is fine.

Revving it hard while she's still cold and all that oil ain't gotten around yet...that's what's not good IMO.

I will start it then put on my gear. By the time I put on my helmet and gloves, warm enough to move slowly. Won't hit it hard for about a mile or so

I don't think its necessary with EFI. I fire it up, put my gloves on, and ride off. I'm easy on the throttle until its warmed up, and I'm several blocks through residential area before I get to a highway.

I start and go, EZ for the first miles.
A 5 min warm up might cause a fire when the exhaust starts glowing..
I also pay at the pump and put the gas cap on it.

Always idle for a few minutes until the heads warm up. I have EFI but old EVOs like to be warmed up to prevent base gaskets from weeping later on. Always a good idea to warm up the oil and bath those vital parts with a more viscous fluid.
