Default Battery at start up

Being retired means fighting boredom sometimes. I was playing with my toys today. Took the Fluke 287 and set it to record, plugged it into the tender port, and started the FW.

The battery fresh off the tender reads 13.24v, turning on the ignition drops it some, the starter really draws on it, and then the charging system kicks in.

The ignition drops the volts down to 12.493v, then there's a small rebound before the fuel pump draws volts down to 12.376v. A bigger rebound to 12.477v after the fuel pump shuts off.

Ten seconds with the ignition on pulls the battery to 12.153v. Hitting the start button nose dives the volts to 9.824. The charge system takes over and raises the volts to 14.205v.

And that concludes your worthless lesson for the day...

Interesting. That's some good stuff I wish knew more of how to do. Me and electrics don't get along too good.

That's all well and good but what kind of electrons do you use, regular or synthetic?

I see this as valuable information for anyone capable of knowing what it means. Nothing wrong with being one with your bike, as long as your not neglecting all the other important stuff that makes life truly worth living. Now if the OP could recite chapter and verse everything in the Harley service manual, but wasn't getting laid Id say there was a problem!!!

I use lithium ion, so that is unconventional instead of using conventional.
