Tucson to San Diego for some serious riding...
Had to make another run to San Diego from my home in Tucson for medical conferences on my elderly parents. The last winter storm of the year was sliding east out of southern California so I decided to take to 2010 Dyna SG. Cold and windy last Wednesday but I didn't get rained on and rolled into San Diego, 405 miles and 7 hours later.
After taking care of business for my folks I rode to Vista (north San Diego country), to spend a night with friends and then Saturday morning headed east to meet some buddies in Borrego Springs and the serious riding commenced.
The S22 down to Borrego Springs is 10 miles of 8% grade and as you can see offers spectacular views from this turnout halfway down:
We rode back up S22 and over to RD's on the S2 where we met our other 4 buddies who had ridden up from San Diego. Here is a shot of some of the group:
We headed down S2 all the way to Ocotillo before reversing course back to Borrego Springs for the obligatory celebration at the BS American Legion. Sunday morning I was out before 7 and headed east passing through Brawley and and south through Holtville to reconnect with I-8. Yuma for breakfast, on through Gila Bend and Casa Grande arriving home just before 2.
Logged 1,130 miles and had a blast. I found my "Happy Place" out on the interstate is 73 - 76 which generates 2,700 - 2,800 rpm and nets me about 47 mpg. San Diego county is home to some of the finest bike roads in the country and I look forward to returning.
