Default Target fixtation, look where you want to go..

Can't find the answer, but why do these not apply when driving our cars? I've been making a effort to look at the guard rails and lines in curves, road side obstacles and such while driving and it has no effect. But when on the bike, whoa Nelly, they are magnets!

But their "air bags" keep the injuries to a minimum!

The leaning is the answer...Your balance is adjusted by the eyes and with your eyes following something, your body naturally moves in that direction.

Target fixation happens in cars, skiing/snowboarding, skateboards, roller-skates/blades, snowmobiles, etc.

It occurs more commonly in motorcyclists [than cars] because the steering on a motorcycle is much more attuned to the miniscule, sometimes-subconscious, movements of the rider.

I've seen it happen in cars too. Mostly those people that can't talk to you without looking directly at you, instead of the road.

Definitely happens in cars. That's why civilians & police who are pulled off to the side of the road get hit occasionally. It's more subconscious; it's harder to make it happen b/c you are trying to do it and are thinking about it.
