Dealer Fees and Freight - 2016
Gents,
In the market for a 2016 Road King. Looking for a silver one, with ABS and security, so MSRP is $20,389. Been to three different dealers so far and have gotten the following quotes:
Bike price - all MSRP
Freight and Setup - $899, $999, $1200
Doc Fees - $136, $142, $142 (Believe state laws have something to do with this)
'Other Fees' - $0, $210, $60
Tax - $1688 all the way around, jives with DMV.
Now, I've searched and read a lot here and abroad. Im not sure how there's guys who get the bike for just MSRP and tax out the door - but I'm betting they don't live in the North East Metro area.
My question is, what is everyone else paying? Im playing the 'out the door' game, but realistically it comes down to these fees, as they'd be the driver for an MSRP reduction.
The dealer who charged me $1200....When I pulled up the bill of sale from my 2008 Moto Guzzi 1200s and showed him the freight charge ($399), I asked how a bike can be shipped from Italy for $300, but from 100mi away (York) it costs $1200. They told me the fees were non-negotiable, so I left.
I've even broadened my search to a 4-hour drive, but the monopoly is strong around here..
Thanks!
Steve

I bought a 15 SGS last fall. MSRP plus tax.....out the door. The dealership did not charge freight, setup or other fees. Plus......for the 1st year, I get 10% off all Harley parts and 15% off non Harley parts. Don't know what your state laws are but this deal was done in Iowa. One other thing......I did have a trade. When I bought the bike that I traded, they sold it as MSRP plus tax......out the door.

I bought a new Road King this year and I ask for the best price. I listen to what they say and agree to that on the condition that they throw in some extras. Such as I paid MSRP but I had them throw in the cost of a SERT tuner plus install,I bought pipes had them install no charge, First oil change no charge.. Hell hit them up for the extended warranty at no charge, use all the bargaining chips that you can .. Good Luck ..

FWIW, I purchased a Charcoal Pearl 15 SGS without setting foot in a dealership this past August. MSRP was $23,399 + TTT + Prep + Freight. Some dealers wouldn't bend some would a little such as MSRP out the door. I wasnt satisfied with that, but I made my intentions clear on the phone and advised them I would give them a deposit over the phone for the right price. I had a good idea of the invoice price, allowed them to make a profit and even pitted dealers against each other for this effortless sale i was handing them. The result? I paid $20,400 out the door for that bike and drove 5 hours to get it. Had them throw in a T Shirt too when I got there. When you know what you want you never have to set foot in a dealership to get a good deal. I did this with a truck I purchased as well with the same result.
