Retail sales are still in decline because they haven't found a way to attract younger buyers. I plan to get a new ride next year but it won't be a Harley because they don't make anything else I want. Harley seem to just be making the same thing over and over which is cool for the boomers but not for me.

As I recall Harley gets ~29% of their sales $ outside of the U.S. Between a strengthening dollar and emerging markets in something of a recession, and in some cases a near depression . . . . this trifecta combination is not good for Harley!

No it isn't something Harley could compete with. I love my softails but the next bike I am looking to get will be a sport tourer/bagger. The things that are most important to me are reliability, quality, at least 80% ready to tour stock, good to great suspension (Michigan potholes), stock performance, smooth both at idle and freeway speeds, cargo capacity, passenger confort, easy to handle at all speeds, rider ergos (fits my riding position), and ABS standard. I have narrowed my search down to the fjr 1300, Kawasaki concur, Indian Springfield, and Indian chieftain (really like how you can raise and lower the windshield). There isn't any real reason to get a new Harley because nothing ever really changes and the quality hasn't really improve so there is zero incentives to even look at "New" Harleys. Just my .02

Harley certainly isn't going away but the news is not good.
why investors are selling off harley davidson
From my perspective, this is the best news: 'The bike maker says it is going to "accelerate the cadence" of new product introductions'. They are way too slow to introduce or improve models. I bought a 14 limited and the 16's are exactly the same.
