Default Very "Touchy" Front Brake 09 RK

Hello all

I recently traded my 04 Deuce for a 09 Road King

my old deuce had great brakes, lots of stopping power without being "grabby"

I am disappointed with the RK's front brake, it is so sensitive that I find my self avoiding it and just using the rear brake

my local "indy" shop is suggesting a brake bleed and new pads

the pads are worn past 50% and look like it might not be a bad idea to change em soon, but i don't see how that will fix my problem

the clock is reading 24,000 miles so it is due for a bleed, (was done at 10k service 2 yrs ago) but i cannot see how that would reduce the grabbyness I'm experiencing

any ideas?... is he right?

thanks

worn pads can heat up too quick and cause grab.
also a good time to "pop/clean the pistons in your calipers
Your Indy is giving good advice

You've got to get used to the fact that the RK has dual rotors up front instead of the single that the Deuce has. You've got a hella lot more Whoa up front now!

Don't know if your indy is right, but that's the right place to start.

Thats the best diagnoses.Get used to the better stopping power of dual discs.

man I wish I had more grab. with a single rotor on my blackline I feel like I have to reef on the lever to get anything to happen compared to my previous bikes. I'd say get used to it and enjoy the extra power from the get go.

Practice using that front brake. One of these days, you're gonna need it real bad really suddenly, and there's no time to learn to handle it then.

Be very careful at parking lot speeds. If the front wheel is turned even a little, the front brake can grab hard and you're down before you even know what happened. Been there done that, and its not fun.

Practice.

What I was thinking as well. When I got my RGC, the first time I hit the front brakes, I thought I was going over the bars!! Took a while to get used to the grabbing power of dual brakes up front.

Went from a single caliper to dual's, wow what a shock. At real slow speeds I only use the rear brake, hate it when I have to pick up a 1000# motorcycle.
