Default Can anyone turn on a Harley?

Im asking this because my bro just bought a softail slim on saturday, and when he brought it home i went outside to take a look and i turned it on without a key. Seems a little weird to me. Can anyone just walk up to it, turn it on, and drive away with it? Is it that easy?

Anyone can, and most of the guys who hang out at The Boothill Saloon have turned on Harley. She's pretty easy, but not that slim anymore. Seriously though, if a Harley doesn't have the security system, aka the fob, and the ignition switch is left off, but not locked, anyone can start the bike and ride off.

I never take the key out of my FXR. And I never lock the ignition on my FLH.

That sucks, I think that should come standard with any vehicle purchased.

All my Breakout has is a ignition switch lock, no fob.

Just like if you left the key in the ignition. Even those with security, I bet I could start 1/2 of them with just 3 std codes. I went and started my friends bike and his wife's.

Moral: change your code.

I just wish the FOB was a bit smaller. For me, the idea behind the FOB was so that a key wouldn't necessarily need to be carried. But, if the FOB takes up as much room as a large keychain, why bother. I never use the key to lock either the ignition or the forks; just rely on the FOB.

Lock your ignition. The current bike (and the wife's bike) is the first I have owned with security. On my Springer, I lock the ignition and forks if I am leaving it.
