Default 1997 road king rear wheel alignment

I serviced the rear wheel bearings and brakes today. When I took the rear wheel off I did not touch the alignment screws in the back thinking it would line itself back the way it was. Well it was either not right to start with or I have done something wrong, maybe. I tried to measure from the center of the axle to the center of the swing arm pivot bolts. Is this correct? also the rear tire is a lot closer to fender on the brake side then it is on the belt side. Is this normal? I have never dealt with a bike that didn't have some sort of alignment marks on the swing arms. When I look it up on the parts diagrams it doesn't look like I left any spacers out. When I get it where I think its close it sounds like the belt is rubbing the belt guard. Thanks.

Yes you measure from the pivot point on the swing arm to the Axle bolt, both sides need to be the same. Then you need to adjust the belt to the correct tension by adjusting both adjusters the same amount. When the belt tension is correct then check the adjuster measurements again.

The wheel should be pretty much centered in the fender. If not make sure all spacers are seated and that the spacers are on the correct side. If you replaced the bearings are they seated as well?

I have looked and the spacers are correct. The belt tracks correctly. I guess it's just one on those things I never noticed. I'm going to measure to make sure it's centered in the frame, and then let it ride I guess. Just looks odd.
