Default 86 electra glide I have to convert to RK

Hey just picked up a 86 EG the bat wing is cracked around mount holes and other places, speedo inop, radio and 1 speaker inop, oil pressure gauge inop, the only thing that works is the volt meter gauge. I am going to strip off the bat wing. can anyone offer anything to this project I am looking for info. I am not interested in making it an exact RK but just new headlamp nacelle and speedo maybe mounted handle bars???? I traded my guitar for this bike and it did not even run when I picked it up. already rebuilt the carb and fluids change. when I slapped on the carb the bike fired right up with oil pressure of 12 lbs at idle. got any ideas????

Depends on budget and goals.

When you remove the inner and outer fairings, you'll expose the EG triple clamps and upper forks, none of which is cosmetically appealing naked.

I have a 1989 FLHS, that's the "Roadking" that you need to look for parts from for your conversion.
My instrument cluster that "Hides" the ugly is called a "Breadbox" Instrument cluster.
It is somewhat ugly also but it has grown on me over time.

Good luck.

I had an '80 FLT, with the frame mounted fairing. (Although it was long gone before I bought it... but it still had that stupid golf tee top looking double speedo gauge/black plastic headlight cage... weird and ugly. But, the price was right) I used 2000 Road King parts and it matched right up, chrome nacelle, handlebar top clamp ever, ignition switch, etc.

But, if yours is the handlebar/triple tree mounted fairing (I'm not sure how that mounts, I just know it's different), you would need to find regular FLH style headlight Nacelle, or (I think) early style Heritage Softail/Fatboy style nacelle and headlight... and upper fork tins.

What kind of tank is on it? Is it the center gas filler or fat bob split tanks? Mine had the awful, boxy sided center fill tank. I used a later FLT style, that looked similar to Fat Bob tanks, but had the center fill gas cap. I mounted a small speedo to the handlebars.

Wheeling and dealing on Ebay and Craigslist/Swap Meets made it actually affordable.

It really threw people for a curveball when I rode up on a Shoveled Roadking! LOL

I think you need more posts than 2 to be able to insert a picture, Johnny.

Not too bad, When I did mine (shovelhead Tour Glide) there were 2 types of nacelles available, I choose the chrome style in the last 2 pics because it covered the gauge pod better and didn't need to be painted, other than that it's sorting out the wiring harness after removing the shark nose. A manual with the wiring diagrams will be helpful.

That bike looks great......just what I would do.

Im looking at a 1993 FLH Tour Glide. Has a rebuilt engine with 44,000 overall miles. Guy wants 5500.00

My total budget is 7000.00 I think I could do the conversion with 5000.00 purchase price.
