I spent the night at my son Alex's house last night and was heading for work at about 7am today when Bambi decided to run across the road. I saw the deer about a nanosecond before impact at about 50-55. I remember rolling in the road and not wanting to roll so I flattened out and slid to a stop. Scooted to the shoulder, nice people helped me until EMS arrived. Half hour ride to the hospital, spent about six hours in the ER. Dislocated thumb with possible ligament damage, sprained ankle, 10 stitches in three places and about three yards of road rash. Released, staying with son Pat until I can go back to work (hoping for next Monday).

Why is this the best day of my life? Because when I got to Alex's house, I wasn't wearing a helmet. He had a spare and offered it to me and I accepted the offer. It's the best day of my life because I'm writing this.
