Default Gas tank help

So i have a 2k 1200 xl C the brackets that are welded to the tank and bolted to the frame by your crotch/between seat and tank happened to break.. what are some compatible tanks that will fit this bike.. suppose to buy one tomorrow (06/14/2016) but its off a 98 and a 3.3 gal and mine being a 4.5.. what should i ask him as relations to fitment or am i just over thinking it?

If it fits, I bet it will, it will leave a gap between the seat and the tank. I would look at something ronnies parts finder and compare your custom tank mount to the one for the 98. Then check if your frame has the bolt holes where they need to be. I want to replace my 3.3 with the 4.5 but I'm too cheap to replace the seat.

Ha, I like that look and that is my solution also, I just need to figure out how to hook up the fender after ripping off the backrest. The sporty is still shiny and I'd like to keep it that way. I like the DK customs seats, it looks like they have a nice complete system. I like the bobber seat but I need the fender for long distance, it is always raining somewhere, usually between where I am and where I want to go

Supposedly the 3.3 gal. tank fits 1995 - 2003. If you have a 4.2 gal then the 98 tank mouints may be different.

I think mines 4.2 or around there.. its the XL custom (big wide tank)

I would really like to get rid of that ugly 5" or what ever height riser and do with a 1-2" riser like a cafe style but im afraid my bars will hit the tank unless i go with a peanut

I have an '87 sporty that's a project bike. It needed a tank and I had one I bought a while back off a 2002. Fit right on.
