The dealer and buying new at the right price.
2017 Sportster 883 IRON with Security system.
Harley MSRP with the Security System is 9344.00
So, how much is fair?
Dealer was able to get 10 grand from my friend this week (before tags title and paperwork).
Offered two black Harley Tee Shirts to seal the deal.

pretty much sums it up, he is happy and likes what he got.....how much is too much? the docking fee, conveyance fee , they are just money that fill the dealer coffers. IMHO, That is a kinda high for a sporty, Used dyna money in fact. But it IS a new Harley, I go mine for almost the same money, am I happy, **** yeah! and so is your buddy.
What really is amazing is the price just one bike fetches between being bought then traded in an resold again and again. The numbers are staggering, they are for most unique vehicles in fact. My dodge ram sold new for 44,000. I bought it for 17,500 When I sell it will be on someones floor for 15,000......that one vehicle netted almost twice it's original value.

I was at the dealer Friday and the salesman that sold me my bike came over and tried to sell me a '17 LTD (own '15 LTD). I just laughed at him when he told me that supply is low and demand is high so there selling over MSRP. I just walked away told him when he gets real call me.
So if your happy with the price go for it, if not hold your ground and buy used.

+1 on buying used. There thousands of really clean two and three year old, super low mileage cycles out there for sale. It really is a buyer's market, not even counting the time of year. There are plenty of good deals to be had, if you're willing to sift through the ads. If you're worried about a warranty, there are lots of plans out there as well. Talk to a used dealer you trust. Doesnt even have to be a H-D dealer.
Buying new has it's advantages, but the prices the H-D dealers are charging pretty much negates all of them.

to summarize
those t-shirts cost him about $700 each
The days of paying over MSRP ended about 15 years ago (especially for sportys)
but ultimately if he's happy, that's all that matters

Sounds like he bought it here in my area. The dealer sales dept still thinks its 25 years ago and if they do give you 2 tee shirts, they won't have pockets, and will have only single color screen printing on the back.
