DK Customs canyon carver footpegs review
These footpegs were put to the test on a 2015 sportster 48. Suspension and foot controls are all stock so clearance and lean were only changed by these pegs.
I was first in the market for some footpegs because I would ride about 40 miles out to San Antonio pretty frequently, and when on the highway(especially head on into wind) my feet would gradually slip off and never could just stay in place. Also, the stock pegs have this bend that drops them an inch lower and then has wear pegs. So, when I'd be around town going around corners pretty quick, I'd drag the pegs every time. It got old quick. I'm 5'11" so I love the forwards, but did not want to continue to drag pegs especially with the fact that the 48's have an offset clevis that doesn't allow any peg to mount.
So, trying to keep the low 48 stance with gaining solid lean angle and grip without having to swap to mids or change clevis', I found DK footpegs when I was getting my key relocation.
I chose the canyon carvers because it was the cheaper one which was easy on my wallet, and because it said it would fit the odd clevis. If you haven't seen or heard of these yet, they are like bmx pedals that have the grooved petrutions that hold your foot and they spin freely or can be set to one position. Or somewhere in between.
Out of the box, they were very tiny looking. They were actually almost as long as the old pegs, but came out straight so they would definitely have more clearance. They fit up perfectly and even came with new snap rings which was a plus. They can spin freely or get set to be in one position but they came already set to this stiff position that would spin if my foot was on it, which I ended up preferring. First ride was very different. Not having my foot on a round pole was awesome. Definitely way more comfortable. Went around some nice corners and couldn't drag a thing. I'd run out of tire before scraping a peg or exhaust. The final test was going on the highway and of course they were great! Kept my foot planted the whole way there.
These pegs were the perfect remedy to my grip and clearance issue. I almost went with taller shocks but now don't need them. I highly recommend anyone with a low bike to try higher pegs first before going to suspension(especially 48 owners) and if your looking for grip them these are definitely the pegs.
