Don't be an idiot
...like me.
I left my Ultra outside Monday night. We were expecting a couple of very nice days and I was planning to ride Tuesday. I parked under my carport, within a foot of both my back door and my garage door, and within 20 feet of my neighbor's house. Forks locked and factory security as active as it gets, i guess.
Fast forward to 0630 Tuesday morning...nothing. Not a scuff mark or a scrape, no trace of my bike or anything used to remove it from the premises. I hate a ****ing thief, but in this case I'm prepared to live with the consequences. I talked to my adjuster this morning, and with my replacement cost clause, I stand to be paid more than I paid for the Ultra at time of purchase, and that goes a long way to satisfying the debt about to be incurred from the purchase of the new Mrs. Okie.
So anyway, most of you already know and those that don't should take heed. Keep your girl locked up. Really. She likes it.

I've talked to some friends who knew something about a specialized trailer which had been used to steal several bikes at Sturgis not very long ago. In essence, it's an open ended, covered trailer with straps hanging from the ceiling. Back over a bike, strap and ratchet it up and drive away. Sounds plausible I guess. There were no scuff marks where the front tire was as if someone had worked the fork lock. Literally no sign it had even been there other than a light scrape where the sidestand was.
Or a handicap ramp on the front porch.

Happened to a buddy of mine back in '03. He had his 100th Anniversary Ultra stolen from the parking garage at the host hotel at the '03 HOG rally. He'd owned the bike just a month. He said they moved two other bikes to get to his. Nothing on the security camera footage. Most likely an inside job, probably went out in a service van.
